Check out some of our favorite spots near our memory care center

Winter can seem a bit…stale. With cold weather, darker days, and limited outdoor activities, it’s easy to get stuck in a boring routine. Luckily, living in or visiting Ohio means the options for fun are unlimited! From nature centers to aquariums, and everything in between, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best winter activities near our Central Parke Memory Care and Transitional Assisted Living community.

So grab your loved one’s hand, and take them on a little trip or a fun jaunt in our care center, using one of our awesome ideas below.

California Woods Nature Preserve

Nestled in Cincinnati, this 113 acre nature preserve offers visitors easy-to-navigate trails, is a birder’s paradise with incredible avian sightings, and is pet-free, allowing visitors to catch a glimpse of the incredible wildlife that makes their home in this Magrish Preserve adjacent nature center. Pack a large cozy blanket, bundle up, and don’t forget the binoculars! While many think that nature preserves are for avid hikers and backpackers, a day trip (or even a couple hours) near the entrance or along an easy path can provide us non-hikers an amazing experience on a winter’s afternoon.

Element Eatery

For the foodies in the bunch, and we know we have a few, take a couple hours with your loved one to discover the offerings of Element Eatery. This food hall brings many incredible dining experiences to the table in one central location. From the tacos of Taco OSO to the authentic Creole cruise at Little Easy, A Po’ Boy Shop, an afternoon of culinary exploration is deliciously easy. Or if your loved one doesn’t want to venture to the dining hall itself, consider bringing a smorgasbord of options back for them to try from the comfort of our living center!

Newport Aquarium

Just over the Ohio/Kentucky border is the Newport Aquarium. With a huge menagerie of aquatic animals, this aquarium is ripe for visiting all winter-long. Try breaking up your visits over a few weeks, and spend an extended amount of time in the various exhibits. An afternoon learning about penguins and sharks can be followed by a morning visit the next week to walk through the coral reef tunnel or Amazon tunnels. One of our favorite experiences for kids of all ages is the tide pool touch, where visitors can touch sea anemones, rays, sea stars, and so much more. A hands-on, sensory experience is always a good way to evoke nostalgia, or create brand new memories with your loved one.

Take a Lap!

One of the easiest ways to spend some time with your loved one without leaving the cozy confines of our amazing memory care and transitional living center is to take a lap around our grounds. If you want some more social interaction, make it a group activity and ask another resident or two to join you and your loved one in your mini-adventure. It’s a great way for residents to bond, and for you to learn a little more about our amazing community members!

Being located near the thriving metropolis of Cincinnati, Central Parke Memory Care and Transitional Living Center can offer wonderful activity ideas for you and your loved one to participate in on a cold winter’s day. From our Mason assisted living and memory care center, we wish you a wonderful and warm winter.
