Support your immune system to stay healthy this season

Winter is one of our favorite times of the year here at Central Parke Memory care and Transitional Assisted Living in Mason, Ohio. That’s why we take every precaution to keep our residents safe and healthy during this beautiful time of year. From our incredible chefs incorporating immune-boosting foods into our daily menus, to ensuring that all of our staff is up to date on the best practices to keep our residents healthy, we take care of the hardest parts so that your loved one can enjoy all of the wonderful things about winter in Ohio!

Although we work tirelessly to keep our residents safe and healthy, there are still several steps you and your loved one can take to be extra cautious during cold and flu season. Here are some of our top recommendations:

Get vaccinated!

Vaccinations are a great way to boost immunity to viral illnesses such as the flu. Getting vaccinated is one of the first steps we recommend to keep your loved ones and those around them safe during this time of year. If you are still hesitant about getting vaccinated, here are some major benefits of the flu vaccine:

  • Increase in your immunity to the flu by up to 60%
  • Can help minimize symptoms if a breakthrough case occurs
  • Reduces the likelihood of hospitalization if contracted
  • Helps protect those around you from the flu

If you haven’t gotten your flu shot this year, contact your primary care physician or any participating local pharmacy to schedule your flu vaccine.

Incorporate immune-boosting foods into your diet.

Another great way to help boost your immune system this winter is to incorporate foods that are high in vitamins, specifically vitamin C, into your daily routine. While our amazing chefs take care to do this in the delicious food we serve to our residents, incorporating these foods on your own will help ensure maximum efficacy! Some of our favorite foods that are packed with vitamin C are:

  • Oranges
  • Lemons
  • Kiwi
  • Grapefruit
  • Bell peppers
  • Broccoli
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Tomatoes

We recommend adding these delicious and immune-boosting foods into your loved one’s daily meals or as a healthy snack!

Get a good night’s rest

Sleep is another great way to help improve your loved one’s and your immune systems. Getting enough sleep has numerous health benefits. But did you know that boosting your immune system was one of them? Here are some of the many benefits that getting enough rest consistently can have on your body:

  • Can help boost your immune system
  • Can help you stay at a healthy weight
  • Lowers your risk for serious health conditions
  • Can improve your mood
  • Can improve your memory

While there are many different ways to help boost your immune system, these are some of our top recommendations due to their accessibility and consistent results! In addition to these immune-boosting tips, we also encourage our residents and visiting guests to use safe practices including:

  • Frequent hand washing
  • Avoiding those you know to be sick
  • Wearing a mask if you are feeling under the weather
  • Staying home if sick

All of us here at Central Parke want our residents to have a safe, healthy, and fun winter season!
