To keep things interesting and find some new things to do this summer, the team at Waterford Terrace Independent Retirement Community in La Mesa, CA has compiled a list of activities to try. Enjoy all that San Diego has to offer, or stay in the comfort of our all-Inclusive resort-style community!

Hit the beach

Lucky for us, Waterford Terrace is just a quick drive to some of the most beautiful beaches in Southern California. Pack a cooler full of snacks, bring your favorite book, gather some friends and/or family and head out for a day spent in the sand. Below are some of our favorite beaches in the area:

• Ocean Beach City Beach – A beautiful beach with a bit more of a rocky shoreline that makes for beautiful sunsets.
• Bermuda Beach – A quieter beach, perfect for a relaxing solo day to spend catching up on your favorite book or to be enjoyed with a group of your peers.
• La Jolla – A little more north, but worth the drive! This beach is great for watching the seals sunbathe or to walk around the local shops. You also get breathtaking views of the cliffs overlooking the ocean.
• Mission Beach – This long beach is a San Diego favorite! Walk the boardwalk or find a great spot to hang out at for the day. If you’re staying into the evening, bring some firewood for a little beach campfire.

Take a trip to the city

One of the best things about our La Mesa retirement community is its amazing location, just minutes from bustling San Diego and all of its summer fun. Head into the city this summer to enjoy local restaurants, shopping, art, festivals, and more! Whether you prefer to have brunch and take a stroll or shop until you drop, our location makes it easy to access all the city has to offer. And if you don’t feel like driving, you’re in luck! We offer our residents transportation to shopping, cultural events, and more.

Visit the local zoo

People travel far and wide to visit the San Diego Zoo each year, and lucky for us, it’s just a quick drive from our community! Whether you have family in town to entertain or just want to explore something new and hang out with animals from around the world, the San Diego Zoo is a great place to spend your day. Simply walk through the Zoo or get the full experience by taking a guided bus tour, hopping on the Skyfari Aerial Tram, or sitting in on the wildlife presentations.

Reconnect with yourself

The warmth of summer invites us to take everything we’ve been doing inside, outside! Reconnect with yourself by bringing your favorite activities outdoors throughout our community.
