The Arizona chill is fading and the sun is shining bright!

Believe it or not, it gets chilly here in the desert, and the team at Copper Canyon Memory Care and Transitional Assisted Living in Tucson, AZ, couldn’t be more excited to see it start to warm up! Warmer weather brings so many more opportunities to get outside, try new activities, and switch up or freshen up your routines. We’re finding new ways to get outside and embrace the warm weather ahead before the heat of summer is upon us. Here are some ideas for spring activities from our Tucson memory care community:

Soak up the Sun

Here at Copper Canyon, we’re blessed with sunshine just about all year round. Take advantage of the beautiful weather we have by getting outdoors and enjoying the fresh air. Our residents are invited to take a light stroll around our secured community, find a nice spot outside to watch the clouds and the birds. If your loved one wants to venture beyond our beautiful grounds, there are wonderful nearby parks to enjoy!

Here’s some suggestions:

  • Gene C. Reid Park: This lovely park located at 900 S Randolph Way is the perfect spot to take a seat and enjoy some nature around the ponds. Your loved one can even check out some baseball, if they’re lucky!
  • Armory Park: This historical park features paved walkways and grassy lawns and is located at 222 S 5th Ave.
  • Christopher Columbus Park: Another great spot with some waterfront views. Feed the ducks while enjoying a gorgeous view of the mountains that overlook Tucson. Located at 4600 N Silverbell Rd.

Take Your Everyday Activities Outside

Springtime in Arizona really provides the perfect weather to take everything you’ve been doing inside, outside! Who can resist a day outside when it’s sunny and 75 degrees? Think about your loved one’s everyday tasks and hobbies and see if you can do any of them comfortably outside.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Reading a book
  • Solving a puzzle
  • Painting or drawing
  • Listening to music
  • Writing
  • Having a phone call or video call with a loved one

With our beautiful outdoor common areas as well as organized outdoor community activities, our residents can enjoy all of the above and more every single day at our Tucson memory care community.

Reap the Health Benefits

When we’re inside all winter long, we tend to forget the amazing benefits that being outside provides to us both mentally and physically. Studies show that being outside in the sun strengthens your immune system, increases vitamin D, reduces stress, anxiety, and depression, and even helps you sleep better by bringing balance to your circadian rhythm!

Whatever you decide to do, be sure to keep in mind these tips in order to protect yourself from the sun’s powerful rays. The Arizona sun is gorgeous but strong!

  • Wear sunscreen with at least SPF 25 or higher.
  • Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before any sun exposure.
  • Wear a hat that shields your face and eyes from the sun.
  • Bring sunglasses with you to protect your eyes.
  • Bring water with you wherever you decide to go to stay hydrated.

We’re excited to see our residents at Copper Canyon enjoy the fresh air and sunshine this season!
