Explore What the Area Has to Offer this Spring

Texas in Spring is quite a wonderful time– warm weather, sunny skies, beautiful blooms, smiling faces and so many activities to choose from. There are so many awesome ways to get outside and enjoy the season both in and around the Pharr area. However, this can make it hard to choose what to do! If you’re an active senior looking for spring activity inspiration, then keep reading for activity ideas from Brook Ridge, a top Rio Grande independent living community.

Visit Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge

Just a short 20-minute drive from Pharr, you can find the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge in Alamo. Open seven days a week from sunrise to sunset, this refuge offers trails, wildlife-related activities, picnic areas, and so much more! It’s the perfect place to hike, bike, practice your photography skills, enjoy time with friends and learn something new. It is known worldwide for its variety of bird species, such as green jays and great kiskadees. This wonderful refuge offers you the chance to see butterflies and birds, among other things, that can’t be found anywhere else in the U.S. There are also many other bird watching opportunities around the area to explore!

Take a Swing at Golf

Whether you’re a golf advocate or are just looking to try something new, there’s an option for you! Pharr has a couple of golfing experiences to offer. If you’ve never been to Topgolf, it’s a great activity for golfers of any level! This is an outdoor golf experience with a covered roof and a hitting bay. Players can choose from a variety of games, where points are scored by hitting microchipped golf balls at certain targets on the green. This experience is great for all ages, skill levels, and weather! You can sit back, relax and enjoy a game of golf without having to chase any balls around. And while you’re at it, you can enjoy food and drinks! If you’re looking for a more classic golf experience, check out the Tierra Del Sol Golf Course or Los Lagos Golf Course & Putter’s Grill.

International Museum of Art & Science

Located in McAllen, TX, is the International Museum of Art & Science. Dedicated to sharing Latin American art and educating about science, the museum offers many exhibits such as telescope images, a sculpture garden, antique stained glass, and more. It offers both outdoor and indoor attractions, making it great to visit on any day! You can also visit its website to view virtual exhibits from the comfort of your home.

Visit Quinta Mazatlan

This historical Adobe mansion doubles as a nature and birdwatching center in McAllen, TX. On its trails, you can find 38 bronze forest sculptures, in addition to seeing beautiful birds and scenery. The admission fee is just $3.00–less than your daily latte–and is well worth it! The center offers many events and programs for visitors to enjoy and learn about wildlife, wellness, nature, cooking and more. The center is holding the McAllen Monarch Festival on Saturday, April 2nd, and you don’t want to miss it! You can join the celebration of the Northward migration of the monarch with live music, cultural dances, speakers, garden walks, arts & crafts, and so much more!
