Our favorite tips to make you the host with the most

The last few years have taught us the importance of spending time with the ones we love. What better way to show you care than by hosting a gathering for friends and family? With some of the top retirement communities in California, we understand how to host a gathering and the importance of creating lasting memories with those you love. That is why we are sharing some of our favorite tips and tricks to get you ready to host!

Our top five hosting tips are:

Consider any dietary restrictions

We know that often when you are hosting and have a lot of people in and out of your home, trying to accommodate them all can be a feat in and of itself. However one of the best tips we can give is to consider any dietary restrictions or allergies that your guests may have. While you do not have to cater the entire menu to these individuals, making sure that they have one or two items specifically tailored to their needs can go a long way in making your guests feel welcomed, which is what great hosting is all about!

Decorate for the occasion

Decor is another key factor in making your home ready for the perfect gathering. From accent pillows and throw blankets, to wall art and even decorative serveware, all of these little touches come together to create a warm and inviting atmosphere for your guests. Some of our favorite ways to incorporate festive decor is through table runners, coffee table decorations, accent pillows, and wall art.

Don’t forget about scent!

They say that scent is one of the strongest memories that humans have, which is why making sure that your home smells nice is on our list. We know that whatever you’re cooking will smell delicious, but we also recommend adding in themed candles, wall diffusers, and even hand soap (as a bonus, it will encourage your guests to wash their hands often during this flu season!) If you want to go above and beyond, you can even include scent sachets in every room to keep the welcoming feeling alive throughout your entire home. With scent being such an important sense, we want your guests to remember that your home smells comforting!

Plan music in advance

Music is a great way to bring people together, and having your playlist planned in advance will help lower your stress during your gathering as well as make the whole event feel very put together. While we recommend keeping the volume low to encourage conversation, guests will recognize if the background music doesn’t fit the mood of your event. Try choosing songs that fit the occasion and are not overpowering. We recommend having a playlist between 40-50 songs that you can keep on repeat so that your guests don’t have to listen to any song more than once!

Relax

Our last, and most important tip for hosting is to relax and enjoy yourself. Planning in advance can help reduce stress on the day of and will allow you to immerse yourself in the event you spent so much time planning! The important thing is to enjoy this time with your loved ones, so take the time to savor the moment.

We love hearing about all of the parties and gatherings that our residents go to! And we’d love a visit from their friends and family, as well.
