Just because it’s heating up doesn’t mean you have to stay in!

We understand that summers in Ohio can get a little hot and muggy, making it extra tempting to stay inside all day. But within the Sage Park Memory Care and Transitional Assisted Living community, we encourage our residents to seize each day with healthy, entertaining activities! Taking care of the mind, body, and spirit is something to consider all year round. So, keep reading for three ideas on how to beat the heat with your loved one this summer at the best senior retirement community in Ohio!

Get involved in our community activities

The best part of our community activities? Your loved one doesn’t have to do any of the planning! Check out the ongoing activity calendar and choose what you feel that day. Our community offers a variety of activities to entertain our residents and engage their minds. If your loved one is looking for something more active, consider armchair yoga or the walking club! Are they looking for something to stimulate the mind? Join us for bingo! For something really special, they can participate in our Virtual Reality Bucket List program to explore bucket list journeys and experiences they have always wanted to complete–all within the comfort of our community.

Soak up the sun

If there’s a beautiful day this summer, we’ll take advantage of it! There are various benefits to being outside for the mind, body, and soul, and tapping into these benefits for our residents is our top priority. A great way to beat the heat while also getting your dose of Vitamin D is getting outside in the early morning or at least before noon when it starts to heat up! Take a stroll around our beautiful community or head out and explore a local park with your loved one for a change of scenery. It’s proven that being outside decreases stress, increases mood, strengthens the immune system, and provides the foundation for a great night’s sleep! Regardless of what you’re up to, always remembers these safety tips when heading out with your loved one:

  • Drink water before, during, and after your outdoor activities.
  • Bring a hat and/or sunglasses to protect your loved one’s eyes and face from the sun.
  • Apply sunscreen with at least SPF 25 before sun exposure.

Bring the fun indoors

Bring the fun indoors on those days when the heat is just a bit too much! Hobbies like knitting, journaling, reading, chess, and crocheting are great because you can bring them indoors or outdoors and are also great activities to invigorate the mind. At Sage Park, we recommend our memory care residents take up a fun hobby that doubles as entertainment and mental enrichment. Aside from these stimulating hobbies, we also offer our holistic memory care program, Hope Blooms, which is based on Montessori principles and designed to honor the memories and experiences of our residents.

Whether it’s hot and muggy or sunny and 75 degrees, there are endless opportunities for our residents to stay active mentally and physically at Sage Park in Gahanna, OH!
