Fun, Mindful Seasonal Meals To Try With Your Loved One

At Heritage Point in Mishawaka, we specialize in custom Memory Care and Transitional Assisted Living here in Indiana. Your loved one’s specific needs are at the forefront of their care. That’s why when it comes to breakfast, lunch, and dinner, we always serve delicious meals with their overall wellbeing and cognitive health in mind.

Our talented culinary team prepares each meal with the MIND Diet as the guide. The MIND Diet is a dietary guide developed by researchers at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago to aid in avoiding and reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Their research is proven to help reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s by 53 percent! With the amount of impressive data from this research, it was a natural choice to have it as a key component of our care programming. So, let’s continue diving into some delicious recipes that align with the MIND Diet and that give a perfect taste of the season!

Breakfast

When it comes to the MIND Diet, it’s important to incorporate whole foods such as whole grains, berries, fish, poultry, leafy greens, nuts, vegetables, and beans. With this in mind, oatmeal makes for a great and nutritious breakfast! We suggest dressing up your oatmeal to incorporate as many nutrients as possible. Check out the breakdown of topping ideas below:

  • Oats
  • Your choice of milk – Use low-fat milk or an alternative nut milk in place of dairy
  • Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, bananas
  • Chia seeds – A great source of omega-3s and fiber
  • Hemp seeds – A great source of added protein
  • Coconut shavings – For a sweet but healthy topping

Lunch

For lunch, it’s important to start incorporating more proteins to help generate more energy in our bodies to carry us through the day! With that in mind, Basil Avocado Shrimp Salad Wraps are a delicious and light option for lunch! Here’s what you’ll need to make them:

  • Large Shrimp
  • Grape Tomatoes
  • Red Onion
  • Avocado
  • Basil
  • Butterhead or Romaine Lettuce

Dinner

End the day with a healthy spin on a classic American dish, Turkey Burgers! One of the food groups on the list of foods to avoid while following the MIND Diet is red meat, which makes turkey burgers a great alternative. You can even get creative and put a creative spin on your turkey burger by dressing it up with avocado, swiss cheese, and chipotle mayo.

The great thing about the MIND Diet is that it serves as a guideline to healthier eating that significantly benefits your loved one’s health all around–and it leaves room for so many delicious meals! Come visit us to try it out for yourself!
