Make the most of the heat with these 4 tips for summer!

Warm weather, longer days, and outdoor activities all come together to make summer a season full of adventure. Here at Stone Valley Memory Care and Transitional Assisted Living in Reno, NV, we have fun activities planned all summer long as well as an amazing staff to support our residents make the most out of the season. Keep reading for our 4 best tips to help your loved one enjoy their summer!

Get Into a Routine

One of the best pieces of advice we have for making the most of summer is for your loved one to get into a daily routine. By incorporating things like waking up at a set time and having a specified time for activities, it can help make each day filled with summer fun more structured. While a routine can sound like it would be repetitive, having structured time can make your loved one feel more comfortable, as well as allowing them time to try new things! It has also been shown that having a routine is great for cognition. Allowing your mind and body to prepare for the tasks of each day can reduce anxiety and increase restfulness. These benefits can help your loved one have a relaxing and restful season!

Spend Time Outdoors

Being located here in beautiful Nevada means that although our summers are warm, they are also full of beautiful sights! We recommend your loved one use some of their planned free time (that they hopefully incorporated from our first tip) to spend time outdoors. In the summertime, early morning walks are a great way to get movement in before it gets too hot! We also recommend an early evening picnic, or watching the sunset. All of these outdoor activities can help your loved ones relax and take in nature on our beautiful campus. In addition to it being relaxing, the proven health benefits of getting outdoors include:

  • Increased levels of vitamin D
  • Better sleep at night
  • Feeling more relaxed
  • Boosted immune system

Get Involved In Our Community Activities

It comes as no surprise that one of our top recommendations for our residents this summer is to get involved in our community activities! This is a great opportunity for your loved one to meet and interact with their fellow residents. But the activities are also fun and a good way to keep our residents active. Our wonderful community has activities like armchair yoga, volleyball, gardening, nature crafts, leaf pressing and stained glass, fitness classes, and more! With so many pre-planned activities, your loved one never has to worry about coming up with something to do.

Pick Up A New Hobby

Summer is a great time to try something new! We recommend if your loved one wants to try something new to start with these low impact ideas:

  • Knitting
  • Crocheting
  • Cross stitching
  • Gardening
  • Board games or card games
  • Reading
  • Birdwatching
  • Journaling
  • Drawing or painting

Whatever they choose, our expert senior transitional assisted living staff will help ensure that your loved one is supported in trying new things!

We are so excited to see all of the ways in which our residents here at Stone Valley choose to spend their time this summer, and hope that these tips help them make the most of the season!
