This Summer Calls For A Safe And Active Lifestyle

The sun is shining in Massachusetts, and everyone is looking for fun activities to enjoy the beautiful weather. After a long New England winter, we know our independent senior residents are ready to get outside and enjoy all that summer has to offer. We’re sharing some of our favorite summer activities you can enjoy near and in our Massachusetts retirement living communities to have your best summer yet.

8 Summer Activities To Enjoy Near Our Massachusetts Independent Living Community

  • 1. Visit the Berkshires and listen to the Boston Symphony at Tanglewood for a relaxing summer day filled with beautiful music. Many other popular artists perform there, so be sure to bring a chair for sitting, water, and a snack for an enjoyable experience at Tanglewood.
  • 2. If you want to stop and smell the flowers, we recommend joining us in our very own community garden. You can get a firsthand look at where some of the fresh ingredients our chefs use to make restaurant-style meals. You can even plant some of your own vegetables to create nutritious and energizing summer recipes.
  • 3. While we think very highly of our own garden, there is another garden we recommend visiting outside of the community–The Garden at Elm Bank. Here, there are various experiences you can enjoy, such as building terrariums, doing yoga in the garden, and guided tours. Gardening is a great activity to connect with nature and destress.
  • 4. Are you looking to socialize with fellow friendly residents? Enjoy a beautiful evening by the fireside in our outside seating area at our fire pit with a beverage or even some s’mores!
  • 5. If you’re a movie buff, we’ve got the perfect spot for you! Visit the Wellfleet Drive-In Theater and watch one of the featured movies. It’ll take you down memory lane, and you can enjoy it all from the comfort of your car. If you don’t own a car, don’t worry because, in our community, we have plenty of movie nights in our comfy theater where you can enjoy a favorite film.
  • 6. One of the many benefits of life at The Woods at Merrimack is having the Merrimack Valley Golf Club across the way. So, it’s time to exercise and practice your golf swing with a peaceful round with friends.
  • 7. If you would rather play a tennis match, grab your tennis shoes and meet fellow residents at our community tennis court.
  • 8. Is there a more quintessentially summer activity than enjoying a baseball game? Don’t forget to visit Fenway Park, home to our beloved Boston Red Sox. The park has a rich history, being established in 1912, so get to the field early for a ballpark tour.

We care as much about our residents’ health as we do about their entertainment, so remember that staying active throughout the year is essential to a healthy lifestyle, but it’s important to protect yourself. As tempting as it is to soak up the sun and heat while it’s here in Massachusetts, remember to stay hydrated in higher temperatures and protect your body with a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. And if you get too hot, head inside to enjoy some air conditioning for a while!

There’s no shortage of fun things to do in and around our 55+ community in Massachusetts. Our friendly staff members can always help you find the perfect activity, and if it’s not in our community, we provide local transportation to most sites so you can have a fun-filled summer.

We would love for you to visit and get to know the caring staff and friendly residents at The Woods At Merrimack – Locke Manor All-inclusive Retirement Living. While you’re there, join us for a meal and schedule a tour around our community!
