Take advantage of our Pacific Northwest summer with these activities

Staying active is a way of life in Oregon, and it’s also essential to long-term health for seniors. So, we’re sharing our favorite ways to celebrate summer in Oregon near the best retirement communities that Oregon has to offer, Garden Way – Retirement Community and Senior Living Community – Summerfield Estates.

9 Activities To Celebrate Summer In Oregon

  • 1. Stop and smell the flowers and join us in our community garden. You can see where some of the fresh ingredients our chef’s use in our restaurant-style meals come from, and you can even plant some of your own vegetables and herbs to create nutritious and energizing summer recipes.
  • 2. If you’d like to visit a stunning garden outside of our senior living communities, we highly recommend the Portland Japanese Garden. Find serenity in the infamous garden and enjoy the fascinating art exhibitions. You can even find workshops to help you with your gardening.
  • 3. You can visit the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, which is a short drive from our Oregon 55+ retirement communities. This stunning site serves as the boundary line between Oregon and Washington. You can stop for scenic views and continue along the Historic Columbia River Highway where you can find bike trails.
  • 4. Residents at our Summerfield Estates Retirement Community in Tigard, OR receive a complimentary membership to the Summerfield Clubhouse, only minutes away from the community. You can enjoy the golf course to practice your swing, play some tennis, enjoy social events, or take a dip in the pool!
  • 5. Join us at our community court if you’re ready for a tennis match. It’s the perfect way to get to know your neighbors and get a significant amount of exercise.
  • 6. You can visit Willamette Valley for a relaxing wine tour with your friends or family not too far from our community. There are over seven hundred vineyards to choose from, so there’s a winery for everyone.
  • 7. The outdoor seating options in our all-inclusive retirement living communities in Oregon are a great way to enjoy the summer weather and get to know fellow residents. From fire pits to fountains, we keep our communities aesthetically pleasing to create a relaxing and friendly environment.
  • 8. Make room in your schedule for our retirement communities’ robust activity calendars, including exercise classes, tai chi, movie nights, weekly bingo, day trips, and more.
  • 9. If you want to enjoy live music during a summer afternoon, we recommend visiting Pioneer Courthouse Square. They host the Noon Tunes Summer Concert Series with regional and local artists in July and August.

While enjoying these awesome activities, we recommend staying hydrated in the higher temperatures and protecting yourself with a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. In addition, remain prepared for Oregon’s weather with a rain jacket, refillable water bottle, and appropriate shoes dependent on the activity.

There are plenty of ways to celebrate the summer in Oregon in our 55+ communities. One of our friendly staff members can always help you find the perfect activity for you, and if it’s not in our community, we provide local transportation to most sites so you can have a fun-filled summer.

We would love for you to visit and get to know the caring staff and friendly residents at one of our two 55+ retirement communities in Oregon, Garden Way and Summerfield Estates. While you’re there, join us for a meal and schedule a tour around our communities!
