Summer is here and in full swing at Creekside Pines!

It’s warming up by the day here in Dallas, Georgia, near Atlanta. At Creekside Pines Retirement Community, we are always looking for fun, new ways to encourage our residents to get out and about to enjoy the hot southern summer. We’re here to share four of our favorite ways to soak up the sun and explore all that this beautiful city has to offer as the days get toasty.

  • 1. Enjoy The Fine Arts
On the days where you really need to beat the heat but still want to get out and about, museums are the perfect place to explore! Dallas, Georgia is rich in history and offers some amazing fine art museums. One of our favorites is the Paulding Fine Arts Association, located on the second floor of the courthouse building off Main Street! Browse through the artwork and inspiration strikes, you can even get involved with their community events. And if you prefer a day out in the city, you can always visit one of the many museums and exhibits in Atlanta, just a short drive away.
  • 2. Visit A Nature Center
What better way to enjoy all that summer has to offer than to immerse yourself in nature? If you’re looking to add a little spice to your usual nature walk, we highly recommend taking a day and checking out the Bear Creek Nature Center. This nature center is a non-profit, aiming to spread the joy of nature and the outdoors. Not only do they host a variety of events for all ages, they also have volunteer opportunities available if you’re looking to spend some of your free time in nature. Nothing beats giving back while enjoying the outdoors!
  • 3. Talk A Walk At Your Favorite Park Or Trail
You can never go wrong with a walk in the park. Dallas, GA is home to many great parks and trailheads. If you’re looking for more of a light walk or a great book-reading location, we recommend heading to one of the local parks like Sara Babb Park, Veterans Memorial Park, or White Oak Park. If you’re more of a nature buff and looking for a little adventure, there’s also great trailheads around town to check out as well! Grab your hiking shoes and try out one of these out:
  • 4. Take Your Exercise Outdoors
One of the most simple yet effective ways to get outside and take advantage of the beautiful weather is to bring your usual workout routine outdoors. It’s one of our favorite ways to get the one-two punch of happy hormones from both exercise and the sun! If you’re a yogi, bring the mat out to one of the great common areas in our community and enjoy your yoga practice in the fresh air. If you enjoy bike riding, swap out the stationary bike for a mobile one, and take a ride around the local community! We also encourage you to try something new like an interactive game with other residents that can help get your heart rate up and your body moving!

There are so many ways to get out and about and enjoy the spring weather in the Atlanta area! Things are heating up quickly though, and that southern sun is hot. So always remember to protect yourself by trying to schedule your activities for the morning or evening when the sun isn’t as hot, applying sunscreen (bring extra to reapply,) wearing hats & sunglasses, and bringing plenty of water on all of your adventures!
