With great weather, comes great outdoor activities!

Located in one of the most beautiful areas in Nevada, Stone Valley Transitional Assisted Living Memory Care community in Reno provides wonderful outdoor amenities and activities for our residents this spring. With gorgeous weather almost guaranteed, there is so much to look forward to at our community this season. Check out a few of the activities we suggest trying below:

Gardening

They say spring is the season of new beginnings and that’s exactly what it is for our garden! A time to plant new seeds and watch them bloom throughout the warmer months, spring heads way to our outdoor fun. Here at Stone Valley, we encourage our residents to experience the joy of tending to plants! Not only is this a great way to get outdoors and enjoy the beautiful springtime air, but it has been proven that gardening can help support cognitive function. If you’re gardening this spring and are unsure of what to plant, consider these edible plants (and start looking forward to a delicious salad later this year!):

  • Tomatoes
  • Squash
  • Spinach and Lettuce
  • Radishes
  • Carrots

Getting Moving Outdoors

At our Reno memory care community, we not only encourage activities that will help them be more creative, but also that encourage them to take advantage of our location and climate. This includes a walking group that meets weekly to provide an opportunity for residents to connect and get moving! This group allows our senior residents to exercise while taking in the nice weather, as well as a chance to socialize with their neighbors. Can you think of a better way to spend your leisure time?

Take Personal Time Outside

We love for our residents to enjoy all of the outdoor beauty our community has to offer. Our beautiful, secure grounds are the perfect place to sit and enjoy nature, listen to music, or get creative with a journal or sketchbook! Our residents can use the views to inspire writing or art. If a solo activity isn’t what they are looking for, they can grab a few other residents and take their board game or card game outside! While our schedule is full of fun activities for our residents to take part in, when they’re not at one of our awesome organized activities, we always recommend soaking up what spring has to offer. It is easy to transition almost any indoor activity to an outdoor spring time activity. Regardless of who you’re with, this is a sure fire way to brighten your day.

Bird Watching

See if you can spot a Mountain Bluebird, Nevada’s state bird, or any other birds chirping around our community! We recommend grabbing a journal and making note of what you see. Bird watching is a great daily activity, and by keeping a written record of what the birds look like, you might see the same ones coming around every day. It’s a great way to get outside and keep the mind active, and it’s a wonderful way to enjoy nature! Bird watching is such a fun and relaxing hobby that will be sure to help you and your loved one take full advantage of the nice springtime weather. If you find yourself outside and birdwatching at our community, be sure to keep an eye out for these beautiful birds found in Nevada:

  • Mourning Dove
  • House Finch
  • Red-winged Blackbird
  • American Robin
  • European Starling
  • White-crowned Sparrow

Spring is a great time to pick up old hobbies or try out new ones! With our accommodating staff, wonderful location, amenities, and activities, there is no better place to enjoy springtime than at our Nevada memory care community!
