This season, help your creativity bloom with these four activities for everybody!

Spring is a season of growth and new beginnings. Emerging from cold winter days, there is no better time to step into a new hobby or immerse yourself in your creative energy. Our expert team here at Heritage Point Transitional Assisted Living and Memory Care in Mishawaka, IN, has come up with a foolproof list of activities to ensure you get the most out of this transitional season. Keep reading for four ways you can tap into the creative energy of spring:

Start a Journal

Writing and drawing are two of many ways for your loved one to express themselves and their creativity this season, and all it takes is a pen and paper! If you or your loved one have never journaled before, what better time to start? And if you have, there is no time more inspiring than spring to prompt new ideas and emotions. Writing with your loved one is a great way for you both to record what you see, think, or feel. If you want to be more creative, try writing a short story together! You can draw inspiration from the people and things around you, using real-life emotions and experiences as a base and working from there. Whatever you choose, writing is a great way to keep your senses alert. If struggling to think of where to start, try drawing from one of these prompts:

  • Write a story about your perfect spring day
  • Write about what you see right now
  • Write about how you’re feeling right now
  • Free-draw. Put a pen to paper and doodle to express your feelings!

Paint a Picture

Similar to writing, painting is one of the easiest ways for your loved one to express their creativity. You don’t have to be a great artist to be able to use art for creative expression. Adding colors to a page is an easy way to let your creative energy flow–it truly is as simple as that. Painting is also a fantastic, low-stress activity that can bring you and your loved one closer together. If you have ever felt that your artistic ability was not up to par, this is the time to work on it! Practice painting what you see; in the spring this can include flowers, birds, trees, and more! The more you paint, the more confident you and your loved one will feel, and the more you will be inspired by everyday things. Allowing yourself to paint might just be the creative outlet you were looking for!

Listen to Music

Of course we had to include music on our list of creative outlets for spring because sometimes there is nothing more inspiring than a good song. In fact, we include music therapy as part of our memory care programming at our Pharr memory care community. To start, we recommend listening to music throughout your daily routine to add an extra layer of enjoyment and creative inspiration! Be it an old playlist of your loved one’s favorite songs, or allowing yourself to listen to something new, music has always been a way to promote creativity and bring added fun to daily tasks. Take this opportunity to listen with friends, and let them show you some of their favorite songs–who knows, maybe they will become your favorites too!

Create Something

Lastly, we recommend trying a hobby that allows you the creative freedom to make something with your hands. Not only is it a great way to keep your mind occupied, but it is always satisfying to see the fruits of your labor. That’s why we include crafting regularly in our activities schedule here at Heritage Point! If you’re looking for new ideas, here are a few of our favorite hobbies to try:

  • Knitting
  • Origami
  • Crocheting
  • Embroidery
  • Scrapbooking

With so much to do this spring, we cannot wait to see what your creativity will bring!
