Enjoy these three ideas to get outside this spring in Tucson, Arizona, before it heats up!

Spring in Arizona is unlike any other. With just about every day in the 70s and a hot summer right around the corner, it’s hard to stay inside! If you have the itch to get moving and get some sunshine but are unsure of where to start, we’ve got you covered! Keep reading for ideas to get outside with your loved one from our Transitional Assisted Living and Memory Care community in Tucson, Arizona.

Take a walk

Take advantage of the beautiful weather and head out for a lovely walk! No matter what time of day it is, the weather is bound to be great in Tucson in spring. Rain is unlikely, but you never know, so always check the weather just in case.

Tucson is home to many beautiful parks and walking trails, so you’re certain to find one that matches the capabilities of both you and your loved one! Are you looking for something more relaxing? Take a stroll in a local park. We recommend Gene C. Reid Park, which includes a lovely pond where you can enjoy the scenery, feed birds, or feed ducks!

Ready for something with a little bit more nature? Saguaro National Park is right in Tucson and is named after the iconic Saguaro cactus! Here’s what to know before you go:

  • It includes a paved 10-mile walking path accessible to hikers of all experience levels!
  • It’s a National Park, so admission is $25 per vehicle and can be purchased at the East or West entrance.
  • There’s a bookstore at the visitors center where you can browse books & souvenirs.
  • There are no concession stands, so be sure to bring plenty of water and snacks.
  • Both entrances offer programs such as indoor presentations, patio talks, short guided walks, and guided hikes varying in length and topic.

Partake in bird watching

Spring brings new animals back to our area, making it the perfect time to start bird watching! Did you know that there are over 500 species of birds to spot in Tucson? Grab some binoculars and a notebook to spot these beautiful creatures and write down any notes or interesting findings on your journey! Three popular birds to spot in our area include the cactus wren, greater roadrunner, and Gila woodpecker. We recommend watching with your loved one right from our beautiful Copper Canyon community or heading to a park with some friends or family to switch things up!

Bring a leisurely activity outside

Another way to get outside, but without breaking too much of a sweat, is bringing your favorite leisure activity out with you! Some ideas of activities you can bring outside include reading, writing, painting, and solving puzzles. Any of these activities are great for stimulating the mind, activating cognitive function, and relaxing the mind and body! The best part is that bringing these activities outdoors gives you a great source of vitamin D while you’re at it!

No matter what you decide to do to get out and enjoy the sunshine this spring, always remember these important safety tips. Because after all, we do live in the desert!

  • Apply sunscreen, SPF 25+ is recommended, and apply 30 minutes before sun exposure.
  • Bring water with you wherever you go.
  • Wear a hat or sunglasses to shield your face and eyes from harmful UV rays.

Lastly, have fun!
